It has been reported that NDMA is associated with a variety of diseases, including severe liver disease, liver cancer, testicular cancer, and lung cancer, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
Over the years, millions have taken Zantac without knowing what the risks were, and some are now suffering from cancer caused by the drug. Sanofi, the manufacturer of Zantac, had a responsibility to ensure that their customers wouldn’t suffer injury from using their product.
A Hidden Danger
In 2019, the NDMA contamination of Ranitidine was investigated. The FDA and Zantac dealers announced a voluntary recall after Valisure, an independent lab, found some evidence of contamination. People were advised to stop using Zantac until further notice after many pharmacies took it off the shelves.
After mounting evidence, the FDA was forced to issue a full recall in April 2020. Researchers observed an increase in NDMA contamination as the stock of Ranitidine sat in storage. As it sat longer and the temperature became hotter, the contamination became worse.
